Daniel Isaac Eaton is the subject of the Work by the Lair-master, and these are his aims, as distilled in The Pernicious Effects of Printing on Society, Exposed.
1. The lower orders begin to have ideas of rights, as men.
2. To think that one man is as good as another
3. That society is at present founded upon false principles
4. That hereditary honours and distinctions are absurd, unjust and oppressive
5. That abilities and morals only should recommend to the first officers in a state
6. That no regard should be paid to rank and title
7. That instruction, sufficient to qualify a man for being a member of society is a debt due to every individual and that it is the duty of every state to take care that he receive it.
8. That every man has a share in the government, either in his own person, or that of his representative
9. That no portion of his property, or labour, ought to be taxed without his consent, given either by himself or representative
10. That everyone should contribute to the support of the state in proportion to his ability, and that all partial exactions are oppressive
11. That laws should be the same to all; and that no-one, whatever may be his rank or station, should be allowed to offend them with impunity
12. That freedom of speech is the equal right of all
13. The rich have no right to dictate to the poor what sentiments they adopt on any subject or in any wise prevent investigation or enquiry
This with a great deal other such stuff, is called the rights of man – “blessed fruits of the art of printing” – the scum of the earth, the swinish multitude.

In case you're wondering (and why should you?) why the links are there, let me explain.
Pi magazine is the magazine of UCL union and is, frankly, fabulous. I used to edit it, but have now retired to do my dissertation or learn about blogging and webcams. Ed and Dan now edit it, while Jim maintains the site.
Unions 21 is an organisation that talks about Trade Unions in Britain. I maintain their website, which is also very nice on the eye.
Payback are very nice people hoping to reduce the prison population. I write a weekly e-mail bulletin for them about crime programmes.
There you go! If any more sites get added, then obviously they've been added after now. Duh.

Ooh, so blogging is fun.
Well in traditional manner this will be a place for recommendations, thoughts and news; hopefully without resorting too much to the first person... and with those resolutions in mind, let's go public!
It's all over the web, so the chances of anyone seeing it recommended here rather than anywhere else is zero, but anyway. Go now to www.cathospital.co.uk where Frank the Cat is recovering from a leg injury. It's a lovely site, especially for those who had cats and now miss them immensely. The homepage has been a bit dodgy because of the number of hits so if you don't get through first time try http://buildingsite.igentics.com/site53/pages/home.html.
