Young Bombers Nurtured by Despair
This is an excellent insight into the psychology behind suicide bombers, and a sad report of the depression many Palestinians are suffering from.

Margaret Thatcher will never make a public speech again, says the BBC. Nobody at the Lair would *ever* have said, as someone at the Fleet Street forum did: "Street parties, anyone?"

American student newspapers come out every day, I recently discovered during a bored surf. Will someone please tell me how the hell they do it?
British student newspapers are considered unbelievably impressive, not least foolhardy, if they decide to come out once a week. London Student (would link you to the website but I'm still trying to put the damn thing online), which you wouldn't think would suffer from a lack of news, comes out once a fortnight. Please tell me how your student newspapers are run, Americans; I know you're there.

I do like America a lot. Here's 6 reasons why:
1. Snoopy
2. The Beach Boys and indeed all that went before and after them till about 1978.
3. My friends Rachel and Vicky. Vicky is not actually American, though she always wanted to be one and eventually she moved to Florida and fulfilled her ambition. Now she has a child called Chrystal or something and works in nail parlours. If you are her, e-mail me!
4.Hollywood, though apparently it's awful in real life.
5. Cheerleaders, though probably not in real life.
6. They have heard of Daniel Isaac Eaton

criminal justice story lines in the main soaps during march/april
Brookside, as ever, has plenty of policeman on the beat and they are keeping an eye on Jimmy, who has lost the fight against manic depression, and Anthony, who finally snaps back at his bullies. Meanwhile, Ron is released from prison and must cope with the tumultuous events outside.
Eastenders, on the other hand, never have any policeman round when they might need them and the cast continue their wild ways with abandon; especially nasty old Janine whose drugs and prostitute storyline continues. Meanwhile, Phil and Sonia are both seeking legal advice in the hope of getting their respective children back.
In Coronation Street, Curly is arrested by his wife at a crèche sit-in - never a help to dinner table conversation.
Emmerdale continues to cover Marc's spell in a young offenders' jail and the community punishment for the rest of the areas' youth; while Scott gets involved in some illegal business.

As you can probably see the dissertation is coming along a little. It's being blogged here not actually for your amusement but because the Lair-master works on a bizarre array of computers of very, very different standards. Get this, the paragraph below was done on Wordpad. Haha.

Chapter three: The trials of Daniel Isaac Eaton
This chapter will focus on four of Eaton's trials. The first three were all for seditious libel while the fourth was for blasphemous libel. His first was in June 1793 for printing Paine's 'Rights of Man'. The second was a month later for printing Paine's 'A Letter to the Addressers'. The third was in February 1794, following some weeks in custody, for one of the pamphlets 'Politics for the People, or Hog's Wash'. He was acquitted at all of these trials. Finally we jump ahead to 1812 and the trial for printing the third part of Paine's 'Age of Reason', for which he was convicted and sentenced to eighteen months in Newgate.

Much as you have to feel bad for those losing jobs in the countryside, which has few enough; it's no reason to justify chasing "the unedible" for hours round trees. Leave them alone, and start using call-centres instead - then there'll be jobs for everyone.

Coo. Frank has a spa. Some cats have all the luck (or some of it at least, guess world-wide fame and a spa probably doesn't make up for a shattered leg).
