Hooray for those on the Internet who create pages to help in this time of desperate need.
Read Diary of a Nobody - a Victorian classic
and The Friend of Humanity and the Knife-Grinder - still amusing three hundred years later

Went back to what used to be Blue Steel today, only to find that it has all changed and isn't the lovely blue dagger thing it used to be. Therefore it has to go from the list of Admirable Blogs. Sorry about that, nothing personal...
Blue Steel is posted up on Blogskins though, as I recall.

Dissertation sickness
Who ever would have guessed it might happen? Three happy years on a college system that supported me to the end, UNTIL the day, just three days before deadline, when it all goes wrong.
Happily typing away. More organised than ever before on a deadline and then the inevitable: half my chapter 2 turns into little squares. Dead. Write half of it again (because at least there is a very very old draft still somewhere else), but first step away from the computer. Find a new computer, away from this appalling network of sin.
Never touch it again.
A night of work beckons ON TOP of all the rest of it. Cheers, Word.
OH happy days.

Another string to my bow - SLG!
As you will see if you visit, it is still being built and I would really appreciate any comments about the design and whether it looks awful on any browsers. In IE4 it fills the page but in Netscape 4 (I think) it looks very small. Why is this?
And, Mr Govt spy, you will be pleased to see that this site is FRIENDLY! :)

Two down, and I got to see the BBC website at work! It was fascinating, the amount of people they have working there is just unbelievable. It was a very exciting atmosphere, with tannoys announcing newsfeeds from Kabul, Israel, Washington.. everywhere. They edit the BBC site in a fairly manual way, which was a bit surprising. Every e-mail goes through a team before going up on the talkpoint bit, which is understandable but apparently a nightmare after big events. The site also can't cope with major events as everyone logs on.
Read my budget reaction!!

If just five more people come to this blog by the end of today according to Sitemeter then 100 people will have visited Clare's Lair this week! Come on people - make my day!!
Sure, a good number of them are me on various computers checking that it's still there, but still! 100! And some people seem to have returned, which is very kind. Who are you, oh friendly visitors?

Yeh.. not much better. In fact, no better at all. But tomorrow is Budget day, and the day when I become the BBC's Student. Should be fun to see how they work. In fact, if you go to BBC News and search for 'student' you get my article about halfway down. I was looking for real student news for Another Project so 'twas quite shock to be there making ridiculous demands for the entire student body.

So, if you're feeling grumpy on May 22nd and you live in America, you're going to be fined, according to Ananova.
How cheered are you going to feel when someone forces a hat onto you for 'being caught unhappy'? Or will you feel more like killing whoever enforces it on you? Pff.

Right, of course I should be nurturing my toddler dissertation now, but am I? No, I have been to Sra Blah Blah, which may, after a little more study, become an Admirabe Blog because the background is lovely, and I have done the Monty Python test:

which "monty python and the holy grail" character are you?
this quiz was made by colleen
And I found out What Things People Accomplished When They Were Your Age - a persistant point of angst.
So it must be time to get on with some *proper* work...

Because this is one of the busiest weeks of my life and I have the time to spare, I have created another blog. Check it out. Once again it is rather UK-centric which still seems kinda rude when most people reading these things are American.

This is from the Bloggies (Bloggy?) nominations for best Australian site. The design and fonts look all calm and there'a a cat at the top - always enough to please.
